Namibia is a rugged and arid country that offers spectacular desert scenery of immense proportions and geographical variace. It is home to the oldest desert on earth, the Namib desert, with its towering sand dunes, fossil rivers and highly adapted fauna and flora.
The ghostly 50 km wide coastal plane along the Atlantic ocean, the desolate and misty Skeleton Coast, is a graveyard for ships and men where whales, dolphins and seals patrol the icy waters. Cape Cross Seal Reserve is a sanctuary for over 200,000 seals.
Damaraland is a large area of unique andfascinating geological and archaelogical features: from the Brandberg, the highest mountain in Namibia, to the large gallery of ancient rock engravings, from ancient craters to petrified forests.
The enormous blinding white salt pans and savannah plains ofEtosha National Park is one of the worlds great wildlife sanctuaries. The grassy sweet water springs around the periphery of the pans attract huge concentrations of game and birds. Namibia has the worlds largest population of wild cheetahs and one can have close interaction with these magnificent cats at the Cheetah Foundation at Otjiwarongo.
If you wish to go into the remote areas in the far north of the country to try and track the rare and elusive desert rhinos and elephants, or the Namib desert, it is highly advisable to go with a professional group such as Untamed Africa. We have considerable experience operating safaris throughout Namibia and in particular in the extremely remote mountain ranges and gravel and grassy plains of the Kaokoland region.
In its eastern extremes in the Caprivi strip the two great rivers, the Chobe and Zambezi, meet at the Kazungula Enclave to form a fertile and lush wilderness area. A myriad of papyrus-lined waterways and well-wooded islands are found here toform a complete contrast with the rest of the arid country. The easiest access to the lodges on the islands is by boat from Kasane (Botswana).
The Fish River Canyon,.second only in length and breadth to the Grand Canyon in America is certainly one of the most spectacular sights in Africa. Its barrenness and haunting beauty attract photographers from all over.
Namibia is home to many divergent ethnic tribes: from the diminutive desert dwelling San , to the regal Herero with their picturesque traditional dress, from to the nomadic Himba tribe in the northern reaches of Kaokoland to the Khoisan around Kuiseb River.
In general the good roads and infrastructure of Namibia allow for self-drive safaris with ease. We can arrange any form of car hire for you from luxury sedan vehicles to custom-built safari campers.
Accommodation and excursions to suit all pockets and interests is readily available. We can help plan your ideal trip and book quaint and out of the ordinary stop-overs for you.
