CAPE TOWN
The city of Cape Town is regarded as one of the Natural Wonders of the world because it is situated at the base of the magnificent Table Mountain. The residential areas of the city are spread along the base of the mountains that span the Cape Peninsula. In spite of hundreds of years of human settlement, the Peninsula Mountains are remarkably healthy and clothed in a most diverse flora, as well as being a haven for small mammals and many bird species. At the tip of the Cape Peninsula lies the 8,000 ha Cape Point Nature Reserve, which has 40km of coastline and as many plant species as are found in all of Britain. The Cape Peninsula separates the warm waters of False Bay from the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Our Cape Town tours involve walks along the mountains that afford our guests extraordinary views of both oceans and provide a window onto the Cape Peninsula as it appeared four hundred years ago.
ACCOMMODATION
Untamed Africa offers magnificent accommodation situated at the base of the Peninsula Mountains overlooking the Indian Ocean - just ten minutes in one direction from (The) Cape Point and The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, and ten minutes from the penguins at Boulder Beach in the other direction.
We recommend a minimum duration of:
5 days/4 nights in each area

THE PENINSULA TRAVERSE
Cape Town is renowned for its magnificent setting, excellent wines, fine cuisine, colourful history and congenial nightlife. With this in mind we have designed the ultimate trip for our guests who enjoy walking and the outdoors.
This is a five-day walk that traverses the Cape Peninsula Mountains from Table Mountain, above the Cape Town city bowl, to Cape Point, where the cold Atlantic Ocean meets the warm waters of False Bay. Days are spent walking through the mountains enjoying magnificent scenery and exquisite plant life while nights are spent in the finest B&B establishments that Cape Town has to offer and dining at fine city restaurants drinking Cape wines. For the walking enthusiast there is no better way to experience the whole of Cape Town nature and city together!! Where else in the world can one walk in nature’s bounty above a major city and enjoy the greatest views the planet has to offer?
This is a view of how the Cape Peninsula appeared 400 years ago. The walk incorporates many different habitats allowing excellent birding opportunities, incomparable scenic views, swimming opportunities as well as the chance to learn about the unique fynbos ecology. The walk crosses mountains, white beaches, forests and intriguing rock pools. At certain times of the year whales and dolphins may be seen offshore from some sections of the walk
For guests on a tighter time schedule, we will arrange shorter walks to highlights of the Cape Peninsula Mountains.

FYNBOS & THE CAPE FLORAL KINGDOM
"Fynbos" is the word used to describe the unique indigenous vegetation found in and around Cape Town and refers to the dominance of small shrubs with fine-leaves in this vegetation. The well known Proteas and Ericas are an important component of Fynbos but the presence of the less well-known Restios is considered to be the feature defining Fynbos.
Eighty percent of The Cape Floral Kingdom is composed of Fynbos and the Cape Floral Kingdom includes 8,600 plant species of which 5,800 are endemic (restricted to this area). By comparison, the British Isles is three and a half times larger but has only 1,400 plant species, of which only 20 are endemic.
Fynbos thrives in harsh habitats with nutrient-poor soils, fierce winds and summer drought with associated fire hazard. The plants in these communities have evolved fascinating survival, dispersal and germination strategies and have intriguing symbiotic relationships with other organisms.

For those of your clients who require personal attention, detailed information and high standards of professional guiding we also offer customised tours throughout the Western Cape. We can provide excellent add-on’s to our Peninsula traverse including wine farm visits, ocean-kayaking, rock climbing, Robben Island tours etc.

PLETTENBERG BAY AND KNYSNA
The Whale & Dolphin Capital Of South Africa
If you are looking for one of the best whale and dolphin watching opportunities in the world and the opportunity to actively contribute to marine research and conservation, then this is the safari for you. The Centre for Dolphin Studies is a non-profit research trust based in Plettenberg Bay and is South Africa's most productive dolphin research organization which has now branched out into commercial eco-tourism - the only one of it's kind in the country. Proceeds from boat tours support whale and dolphin research, local conservation projects and environmental education programmes, in line with their motto "OBSERVE & CONSERVE".
Scheduled cruises depart daily, offering guests an introduction to some of SA's most magnificent marine wildlife - including whales, dolphins, sharks, seals and sea birds. Official whale watching permits allow our custom-designed vessels to legally approach whales 'up close and personal' - giving clients unrivalled, expert insight into the lives of these gigantic creatures. Other specialities include: champagne beach picnics, kayaking, scuba-diving, deep sea fishing, township tours, guided forest and/or beach walks.
We recommend a minimum duration of:
