THE PEARL OF AFRICA
Aptly named The Pearl of Africa for its astounding beauty, Uganda has a lot to offer: from the snow-capped Ruwenzori Mountains (The Mountains of the Moon), the highest mountain range in Africa, to the Great Rift Valley with its Great Lakes and rivers: Lake Victoria, Lake Edward, Lake Albert, Lake George, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, the Source of the Nile river and the Kasinga Channel.
Ugandas national parks are quite unlike any other parks in Africa. They all lie within distinctly different ecological zones and support a complete cross-section of wildlife. The Queen Elizabeth National Park offers lush green rolling grassy plains; imposing tropical forests, old volcanic craters, great lakes and saline lakes brimming with flamingoes. All species of big game can be seen here, but the Giant Forest Hog and Uganda Kob are but two of the parks special attractions.
Situated on the Nile river, Murchison Falls National Park comprises savannah woodland and marginal riverine forests. The launch trip along scenic riverbanks lined with big game and the largest crocodile population in Africa to the bottom of the falls, the Eye of the Nile, is a must. The Chobe area in the park below the Karuma Falls is notable for Rotschilds giraffe and black rhino, amongst others.

The fascinating and highly endangered mountain gorillas which inhabit the south-western corner of Uganda (bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo) offer perhaps the most rewarding safari anybody can ever hope to do. Gorilla Trekking is done in the dense rain forests at altitudes of between 7 500 and 10 000 feet in Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
(Depending on availability of gorilla permits we might even cross into Rwanda or the Congo to view the gorillas in the adjacent national parks).
Chimpanzee Trekking is done in the Chambura Gorge, in Kibale Forest or on Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria. Fourteen different primate species occur in Uganda.
In Uganda the East African savannah meets with the West Africa rainforests and as a result has an amazing diversity of wildlife, with more than 50 large mammal species recorded.
The birdlife in Uganda is absolutely spectacular and about 1000 species have been recorded in this relatively small country. The rainforests are particularly rich in avifauna and house west African bird species that are not found elsewhere in east or central Africa.
We recommend a minimum duration of:
12days/11 nights for a mobile safari which includes several national parks and a minimum of 2 days/1 night stop-off in any one area
Gorilla And Chimpanzee Safari
UGANDA (and RWANDA)
12 Days/11 Nights
A chance in a lifetime to closely view the endangered Mountain Gorillas, as well as Chimpanzees, Colobus monkeys and a host of other forest and plains primates.
Traverse some of the major Great Lakes along the Great Rift Valley and view the source of the Nile River.
A bird lovers dream.
